Whenever we go on a trip out of town, we always look forward to what we’re going to eat. It’s something planned, and usually, if it’s near Metro Manila I already have go-to restaurants if I’m familiar with the area.
For Antipolo, we were invited to try Chef Happy Mango Grill. The owners created the grill as a venue for their own family get-togethers and enjoy their family dishes. The location was in the lower part of Sumulong Highway. It was very accessible, and with parking too.
The first thing you notice is that the entrance is small but when you step inside it’s a big area centered at a huge mango tree inside. On the left, you find the smoking section. On the right, the non-smoking section. And a mini fountain near the base of the tree.
They have beautiful fixtures made from rope, wooden baskets, and leather in both areas.
Fiesta Platter(1299PHP)
This was composed of grilled squid, liempo, boneless chicken bbq, and bangus. Each of the different pieces of meat had a different marinade and flavor.
Sinigang na Baboy sa Manga(350 PHP)
This dish uses the green mango for the sour component of their sinigang and makes it cleaner tasting but we would have liked it to be more sour. The pork was tender though even if it was a bit fatty.
Binagoongan(220 PHP)
The cuts of pork were sauteed in bagoong(fish paste) and topped with eggplant and green mango slices. It would be better if they added more bagoong and made the pork crispy on the skin side.
Hipon Aligue(290 PHP)
For the price, we expected more than 6 pcs of shrimp. The aligue was also a bit too sweet for our taste.
Tokwow(155 PHP)
The tokwa was cooked in a sweet sauce and topped with different vegetables.
For dessert, we recommend the Leche Flan(120 PHP).
The Mango theme of the restaurant is evident in each of the dishes they presented, as well as, the ambiance of the place. From the Mango tree at the center of the whole restaurant space to the carefully added green mango to their key dishes. They showcase the green mango from concept to execution in their dishes.
