While we usually follow the gregorian calendar when we celebrate our traditional new year, we Filipinos also celebrate Chinese New Year. With over centuries of friendship and some of the Chinese traders settling down in the country. We have learned and cultivated some of their traditions as our own. We actually have the oldest China town in the world due to this influence.

One of these influences is how we now celebrate their New year. Chinese New Year is celebrated at the start of the lunar month, also called the spring festival as it symbolizes the end of winter and coming of spring.

For this years Chinese New Year, celebrate Prosperity, luck and happiness abound at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria to usher in the Year of the Earth Pig with a fittingly indulgent array of dining delights at Xin Tian Di.

To start your Chinese New Year right, order the Yu Sheng salad, each element of the salad symbolizes wealth, health, and prosperity. The higher you toss the more fortune you will get on the new year.

Start off the new year with the “Wealthy Menu” which starts with a choice of either the Great Glory Yu Sheng (Prosperity Salmon Salad with Jellyfish) or a Colds Cut Combination (Chinese or Japanese Style).

The Prosperity Salad is an array of fresh cut vegetables and fresh seafood drizzled with a sweet oil based dressing. It’s light, refreshing and full of flavour.

The Cold Cuts platter comes your staple Cold Cut favourites: Century egg, Salmon Nigiri, California maki, Seaweed, Asado, and Soy Chicken.

The Eight Treasure soup with shredded abalone is thick in consistency and mild and is a good starter to the meal.

This is followed by main dishes Deep Fried Stuffed US Scallop with Wasabi Salad Dressing, Steamed Codfish Fillet with Black Bean Sauce; and Roasted Duck in Plum Sauce.

The Deep fried stuffed US Scallop with Wasabi Salad dressing has a crisp exterior lathered with a sweet mayo. The inside is filled with fresh whole scallops.

The Steamed Codfish fillet with black bean sauce is delicious. There is a creamy fatty taste to the fish which complements the sauce.

The Roasted Duck had crispy skin and tender and juicy meat. The fat and the meat of the duck in perfect harmony with the plum sauce that cuts the richness.

The menu is offered at Php12,888++ for four persons. Their New Year Group meals is available until February 10, and the special New Years menu is available until February 15.

During the Lunar New Year, it is typical to give gifts to friends and family. This Koi Fish Nian Gao elegantly encased boxes of red and gold, available for takeaway as gifts to friends and family. Each box contains two Koi Fish Nian Gao and is priced at Php1,188++ available until February 15.
