Let’s venture into film photography for a moment. Those of us fortunate enough to have photo albums from the ’90s that are now tucked away in our parents’ homes will undoubtedly take great joy in flicking through the ragged card pages, looking through the awkward portraits, day field trips that we took when during grade school, the 7th birthday party that was too memorable, beach trips to Matabungkay, and other occasions. The point I’m making is these vernacular photo albums were perfect and they were all shot on film.
For purist photographers who go beyond just randomly applying random VSCO presets, there are so much into photography than meets the eye. If you’re an enthusiast and would want to venture more into doing film photography these are a few things to consider.
You only need these three things to consider: a camera, a light meter, and some film.
Which camera you’d be using or would want to spend time on. Depends actually on what type of subjects you wish to explore or type of tone you’re going for. I suggest you go for cameras that were produced starting 1990’s and above as most models will have built-in light meters.
A 35mm basic camera for simplicity purposes.
Should you want an instant gratification then go for the classic and popular Polaroid 600 BE’s.
Canon AE-1 Program is cheap and widely available for around 2,000php ++ thousand which comes with a standard 50mm lens.
Toy Cameras such a Lomo, but I personally wouldn’t recommend it as you’d be superficially clothing your output with distorted colors and framing.

Why Go For It?
Restore the soul in photography
Film photography will refuse to die regardless of the digital platform evolution. Yes, new cameras have technically advanced sensors that surpass ten folds film camera’s dynamic range- not to mention speed and portability. They are cheap, efficient, and can produce exceptionally sharp images- and yet soulless and lacking of joyful output. Post-processing of these digital images took away the romance of the photography workflow.
Instant gratification is all too common with digital photography these days. Whether it’s chimping at the LCD screen while you’re out on a shoot or holding up your phone at a concert, it’s a blight on society and takes an immense deal away from the pleasure of photography.
Today we’re not only making fewer albums, but we’re also taking more photographs to get that perfect shot. Even our smartphones are littered with countless portraits of our dogs, people, because the photo before could have been just a little bit better.
Film photography can let go of faultlessness, and those photo albums that we had back where we can look back on are still as perfect today as when our parents first took those photos of us. They evoke certain familiar emotions and nostalgia.
It seeks the truth on how you view the world from your eyes and the camera’s viewfinder. It is the opposite of self-absorption and narcissism as presented on your social media feed.
