Who doesn’t like nachos? We don’t think anyone can say they don’t like nachos. This simple dish with crispy corn chips topped with melted cheese, tomatoes, beef, and chilies, has been a staple drinking food all over the world. Today, we visit one of the more popular versions in Manila.
La Carnita is home to the Nacho ala Bomba that was made famous in Business Insider, their original branch is in the Hive Food park.
Finally, they have opened their flagship store situated on the second Floor of the Regus Building in Katipunan Ave.
The look of La Carnita is plastered walls tiles and brick with the theme of aqua red and black with a Mexican hat and mustache. The whole theme is a play on an industrial Mexican style chic.
We were able to try a number of their dishes. The most prominent thing that we noticed is that cheese makes things happy.
Carnitas Quesadilla (160 PHP). Their Quesadilla’s come in two variants either beef or chicken. We suggest having the beef. The whole quesadilla is filled with flavorful beef filling and perfect with their different sauces.
New on their Menu is the La Comida, their version of rice meals and your choice of meat either Ribs, Chicken, or Pork Belly.
La Comida with Ribs(275 PHP). The ribs were tender and flavorful but were inconsistent with the flavor. The whipped potato was really good with the cheese.
La Comida with Chicken(185 PHP). The chicken was flavorful but wish it had a crispier skin. The elote corn was dry and a bit tough.
Chimichanga (160 PHP). Your choice of beef or chicken wrapped buritto then deep fried to create an extra texture for this classic dish.
Nacho Ala Bomba (195PHP). This was probably the most appetizing thing we’ve seen all week.
The nacho chips are served then topped with a mix of mozzarella, cheddar, and La Carnita cheese sauce right on your table. The mix of cheese, beef, and beans in a happy harmony of flavors that dance in your mouth. Truly the most addicting nachos around.
The only thing that we believe can be improved is their sauces. The Cilantro sauce lacked flavor, as well as, the chimichurri.
Their price range is very affordable yet not sacrificing the use of ingredients to deliver what’s being promised on their menu.
We recommend getting their famous Nachos ala Bomba, it’s on a completely different league in the nachos game.
Overall, La Carnita, takes familiar flavors of Filipino and Mexican cuisine in a fusion that’s recognizable to the Filipino palate.
