Let us take you to a place that is quite unspoken. Away from all the fiasco-themed food parks and an escape from Maginhawa Street’s chaotic scene. Farm to table food, an art space and a micro market rolled into one unique sushi.
Looking for a place to go to in Maginhawa Street in Quezon City we set our Waze to Green Daisy Organic Restaurant as we wanted to get a cup of coffee to somewhere not that crowded and tucked away from the food parks. To surprise (a good surprise rather) the house turned restaurant in #20 Maginhawa Street completely got revamped and now named Skunk #20 Café.
As we parked our car along the side streets their medium-sized acrylic sign outside gave a hint that it’ll be an experience so to speak. The radical image of a skunk with rainbows shooting from its ass.
According to the ladies who made our salad, they were friendly enough to el where they got their produce. They told us that the vegetables that their serving comes from their own farm in Isabella. Now managed by the next generation of organic farmers in the family, Skunk #20 serves value home-made organic food that’s reasonably priced for budget-conscious clients. The place is welcoming as its tall wooden gates are wide open. It is like a big welcoming arm luring you inside to come in.
Skunk #20 is not only a restaurant that serves organic food, but it also serves a harbor for an artist-run gallery they named Project 20 that features a few contemporary artists that used different mediums every few weeks. Skunk #20 lay down their arms and surrenders the whole place as an art space for these artists to allow them to freely express themselves.
Their menu was creatively and cleverly hand-drawn like a narrative way of putting an image per section of the menu handout. Their menu selections are categorized per kind of protein, then greens. soups, desserts, and beverages which included their healthy shots. Click to enlarte menu pages.
Since organic fruits and vegetables are Skunk #20’s specialties we got the Gourmet Salad (120php) with Green Daisy Vinaigrette. It is prepared with perfectly crunch greens, with skinny carrot and beet strips, that created a good texture and aesthetics to the salad plate. Huge props for their house-made salad dressing. It is well balanced, fresh, hint of garlic and with just the right amount of zing to it. You can have them make you a batch in for 300php.
Fruit plate (120php) is basically anything that is in season. My plate consists of very sweet dragon fruit, melon, and watermelon.
Did I mention that you can beers in Skunk #20 as well for just 60php? I will definitely go back here to have a bottle or two next time.
The service was excellent. They were attentive and knowledgeable about the food that they serve. They will encourage you to roam around their garden and corner arts spaces.
The al-fresco style dining is wonderful while we enjoyed our meal. Lush greens surrounded the place that complemented the molave wood fixtures. The space is airy and relaxing yet they play and blast out folk rock & roll in their playlist. Everything ties up together giving Skunk #20 a character.
Another of Skunk #20’s brilliant offerings are the health shots. If you want to experience super, they have diverse kinds of fermented fruit and vegetable drinks that will surely give you more than an apple a day can. For instance, the 3-C health shot made with cucumber, carrots, and celery, not only boosts your immune system but also gives you a sturdy kick in the process.
You can still find the retail corner of Green Daisy Organic at Skunk #20 Cafe, where you can purchase many of their organic products and farm goods like red, black, brown and white rice, chili sauces, probiotic concoctions, fruits, vegetables, meat, and more.
Skunk #20 is an escape space if you want to get good organic food that is reasonably priced, knowledgeable ladies who will serve and prepare a good meal for you and an art breathing space that transports you to a different realm. Just being there alone is an experience. With that being said we’re giving them a 4/5 extra rice rating (learn about or CX rating here)
