Valentines season will soon grace us with all the hyper-romantic prepositions, imposing marketing schemes from our local malls, and extra cheesy extravaganzas of everything. Despite our awareness about these schemes, Us Filipinos still give in to this once a year occasion. We’re sappy romantic and its embedded in our culture’s DNA.

Why Go?

The restaurant has an open atmosphere which allows guests to enjoy Filipino hospitality in a contemporary setting. Complimented with locally sourced types of furniture; Diretso Acacia Tables, E. Murio rattan chairs, and capiz fixtures by Milo Naval. The warm local wood and items stood out so well against the polished concrete and basic interiors.

Toyo’s philosophy revolves around taking basic elements of Filipino flavor presenting it in a subtle way that strips basic elements to highlight the true essence of it.

What to Get?

Offerings are best enjoyed through its tasting menus (P2,900 +++ per person) or its three-course set menu (P1,000 per person). A handful of dishes are available in à la carte. We decided to try first the 3-course meal for our first visit.

Why Go?

Switzerland is known as a neutral country but they actually have many influences from Germany, Italy, and France. This confluence of flavors can be found in Old Swiss Inn’s menu roster where you can see and taste the influence.

Old Swiss Inn provides the new generation of customers the quintessential experience to European dining. It has all the beautiful textured layers of experience, a remarkable induction to Swiss menu staples.  

The ambiance is charming and quaint. If you value privacy and exclusivity then this place is a charmer. They’re  open 24/7 ready to treat you and your date anytime.

What to Get?

Go for their special Scamorza Fondue. Smokey and luscious cheese fondue made from apple-smoked cheese. They add in tomatoes to highlight its flavor profile.  Each pot is serve with housemade bread and apples.

Come this February 10, Old Swiss Inn will be including this as a tasty new offering to its house famous cheese fondue with the new Scamorza Fondue made with an Italian semi-soft cheese with its diverse milky and smoky notes


Chocolate Fondue

Melted chocolate on a pan beneath an open flame. Take a few their homemade marshmallows and dip it in. Sinful, and elegant this simple snack is a sure winner for any age.

Patio Vera Marikina: An Unexpected Secret Garden

Why Go?

Looking for a perfect place to bring your date? This place is smothered with romance and valentines appeal all around its surroundings.  Then let us tell you about this mecca of a place in Marikina called Patio Vera. It is magnificent during the night. Perfect fixtures, mood warm lights surround the place, ample space and valet parking available. It’s an old house in Marikina that was converted into a restaurant. Antique and glamour pieces adored the place giving the restaurant its own character.

The garden provided a relaxing al fresco dining experience. Large tables, candlelit areas the works. You may opt to stain indoors where there is A/C, but we highly recommend that you experience their al fresco dining.  The ambiance of the place is perfect for dates to a lovely dinner. The ambiance is perfect for a more relaxed, intimate, & laid-back feeling we city dwellers badly need.

What to Get?

Their food is also worthy of praise and served with large portions perfect for sharing. Their menu is nothing unique or ‘fusion’, but rather delectable to the taste and value for money.

An unexpected, totally underrated, rustic restaurant. Forget those chaotic over-hyped and noisy restaurants for a while and come visit this secret garden in Marikina.

The clincher is where they put their change for your bill. It’s reflective of Marikina City’s history

Ditch going on a movie date. Do that when you reach your old-plateau stage of the relationship when you’ve got nothing else to do, but to sit silently for at least 2 hours doing nothing. Do something new and memorable that heightens the senses and will evoke positive feelings and emotions. It has been proven that people who shared an adrenaline rushed-activity tend to become closer. Go target shooting over ARMSCOR.

Dance a different way over at Republic Fencing and Sports Club

If you’re a little afraid to handle a gun. Fencing is a good alternative. It is classy, its competitive in nature and it’s artfully choreographed.
